Leukocyte telomere length is associated with disability in older U.S. population

Peer-Reviewed Scientific Journal:
Journal of the American Geriatric Society

Size of study:
624 adults

Summary
This study found that leukocyte telomere length is predictive of disability of older individuals in the U.S. population. Diabetes mellitus in particular plays an important role as a modifier of the association between leukocyte telomere length and disability, CVD, and cancer. These findings suggest that leukocyte telomere length can be a clinically viable biomarker of overall well-being that is predictive of morbidity in older U.S. adults.
