Dietary patterns, food groups, and telomere length in the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA)

Peer-Reviewed Scientific Journal:
American Journal of Clinical Nutrition

Size of study:
840 Caucasion, African American and Hispanic adults

Summary
Processed meat intake was negatively associated with telomere length which means that the more processed meat a study subject consumed, the shorter the subject’s telomeres . For every 1 serving per day greater intake of processed meat, telomere lengthT/S ratio was 0.07 smaller.
