The Association Between Physical Activity in Leisure Time and Leukocyte Telomere Length

Peer-Reviewed Scientific Journal:
JAMA Internal Medicine

Size of study:
2401 caucasion twin pairs

Summary
The leukocyte telomere lengths of the most active subjects were 200 nucleotides longer than those of the least active subjects. This finding was confirmed in a small group of twin pairs with different levels of physical activity. This study suggests that physical activity during leisure time is associated with longer telomeres.
