Insomnia and Telomere Length in Older Adults

Peer-Reviewed Scientific Journal:
Sleep

Size of study:
126 adults, 60-88 years of age

Summary
Insomnia is associated with shorter telomere length in adults aged 70-88 y, but not in those younger than 70 y. These findings suggest that clinically severe sleep disturbances may increase cellular aging, especially in the later years of life.
